New Delhi, Jan 19 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently commended the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on its Raising Day, praising the agency for its role in establishing global benchmarks in disaster response and management.

In a message posted on X, the Prime Minister stated: "As we celebrate the Raising Day of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), we honor the bravery, dedication, and selfless service of the courageous personnel who act as a bulwark in critical times. Their relentless efforts in saving lives, managing disasters, and ensuring safety during crises are truly admirable. The NDRF has indeed set global standards in disaster response and management."

According to information from the official NDRF website, the force has successfully saved over 155,205 lives and evacuated more than 800,420 individuals stranded in disaster-affected regions both domestically and internationally since its formation.

"The swift and effective actions of the NDRF during significant disasters such as the 2011 Japan Triple Disaster, the 2015 Nepal Earthquake, and the 2023 Turkiye Earthquake have received global recognition. Exceptional teamwork, extensive training, and advanced technology have contributed to these accomplishments," stated the DG-NDRF in a post.

For its unwavering commitment to community service, the NDRF has earned numerous accolades and awards, including the Police Medal for Gallantry, Jeevan Raksha Padak, President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service, Prime Minister’s Police Medal for Life Saving, and a letter of appreciation from the Japanese Ambassador, among others.

The current Director General (DG) of NDRF is Piyush Anand, a 1991-batch IPS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre.

Piyush Anand holds a B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Delhi and a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Policy and Management from MDI Gurgaon.

His prior roles include serving as SP/SSP in 11 districts in Uttar Pradesh, IG (Range) Moradabad, IG (Range) Kanpur, ADG (Establishment), and ADG (Railways) in UP.

Anand has also spent over seven years with the Central Bureau of Investigation and more than three years with the Central Reserve Police Force.

Additionally, he has worked in the Central Industrial Security Force as ADG/SDG for over a year before taking up the role of Director General at NDRF on March 31 of the previous year.

Awarded multiple honors, Anand has received the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, Police Medal for Meritorious Service, and a Gold Medal from the School of Public Policy & Management, MDI Gurgaon for exceptional performance, among other recognitions.
