Lucknow, June 26 (NationPress) In an unsettling turn of events, a newborn has gone missing from a district hospital located in Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi district.
Shivakant Dixit's wife, Nidhi, hailing from Bilhari village, underwent a C-section and welcomed a healthy baby on June 19.
During a media interaction on Thursday, Shivakant recounted that the following day, while attending to Nidhi's dressing, it was discovered that her stitches were infected, necessitating her transfer to Ward Number 36 on the facility's first floor.
Meanwhile, the baby was resting beside his grandmother on the lower floor of the hospital. However, around 3 A.M., when she awoke, the infant was missing from the hospital cradle.
Shivakant alleged that a woman donned in a mask had taken the child who was sleeping next to his grandmother.
The hospital guard also expressed uncertainty over the baby’s fate and the identity of the woman who abducted him, as Shivakant informed the media.
In response to the report of the missing infant, the Uttar Pradesh Police have initiated an investigation.
However, the police encountered challenges during the inquiry, as some of the CCTV cameras at the hospital were non-operational at the time of the incident.
A case has been filed against the unidentified woman, and authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from both the hospital and surrounding areas.
The family of the child is distraught, raising concerns regarding the hospital administration's negligence.
Semwati, the child's grandmother, stated, "He was beside me in the cradle. Upon waking up, I found the cradle empty. I inquired about the child, but to no avail."
Authorities indicated that the investigation is ongoing, and a breakthrough is anticipated soon.
In a separate incident, a newborn's body was discovered in the Bhainsa River on Monday, causing widespread panic, as reported.
With the umbilical cord clipped and the child wrapped in a green cloth, there is speculation that the baby may have been delivered in a hospital.
Local workers in the field spotted the body and notified the police, who have dispatched it for a post-mortem examination.
