  • Demonstration focused on high-rise structures and train coaches.
  • Reduces reliance on manual labor in hazardous locations.
  • Opens doors for wider implementation across NFR network.
  • Aligns with Indian Railways' vision for modern maintenance practices.

Guwahati, April 22 (NationPress) In a groundbreaking initiative to enhance the cleanliness of train coaches and railway stations, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) conducted its inaugural drone-based cleaning operation at Kamakhya railway station on Tuesday, according to officials.

NFR's Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma stated that this demonstration aimed specifically at cleaning high-rise structures and hard-to-reach areas within the station, along with the roofs and exteriors of train coaches, highlighting the potential of drone technology in improving cleanliness and hygiene.

The areas targeted during this experimental cleaning included the Kamakhya coaching depot sick line, the under-floor wheel lathe shed, and the outer dome section of Kamakhya station, along with several train coaches.

This operation effectively demonstrated the abilities of drone technology to access and maintain elevated structures with precision and ease, according to the CPRO.

CPRO Sharma remarked that this initiative illustrates NFR's ongoing dedication to leveraging innovative, technology-driven solutions for enhanced cleaning operations, with the goal of boosting efficiency, precision, and hygiene across railway premises.

“Drone-based cleaning not only enhances accessibility and precision but also diminishes reliance on manual labor in hazardous or elevated areas,” he explained.

He added that the success of this pilot demonstration paves the way for broader implementation of drone-based cleaning across additional major stations and trains within the NFR network.

This aligns with Indian Railways’ vision of adopting cutting-edge, smart maintenance practices that comply with international standards.

The Northeast Frontier Railway continues to spearhead sustainable, technology-driven innovations, promoting a cleaner, safer, and more efficient railway environment for both passengers and railway personnel, the CPRO concluded.

NFR, one of the 17 railway zones in the country, operates in the northeastern states, seven districts of West Bengal, and five districts of north Bihar.
