New Delhi, May 22 (NationPress) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) announced on Thursday the apprehension of a key associate of two terror operatives linked to the Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) involved in a grenade attack on a temple in Punjab's Amritsar district back in March.
The absconder, Bhagwant Singh, also known as Manna Bhatti, was captured on Wednesday in Akalgarh village, marking the total number of arrests in this case at four.
This attack was executed by Gursidak Singh and Vishal, alias Chuchi, who launched a hand grenade at the Thakurdwara Sanatan Mandir in Amritsar on March 15, according to the NIA's findings.
The attack was claimed by the banned terrorist organization, KLF.
Following the temple assault, Gursidak Singh was killed in an encounter with police, while Vishal was apprehended. Additionally, two other individuals, Diwan Singh, alias Sunny, and Sahib Singh, alias Saba, were also arrested in connection with this case.
According to the NIA's investigation, Bhagwant Singh, who had been on the run since the incident, knowingly provided refuge to Gursidak Singh and Vishal. The two stayed with him during both the planning and execution phases of the terror attack. The grenade used in the attack was also hidden behind Bhagwant’s residence with his consent.
Further investigations into the case RC-08/2025/NIA/DLI revealed that Bhagwant Singh had received funds associated with terrorism in his bank account. The NIA is actively pursuing its investigation in the ongoing effort to dismantle the KLF’s networks within India and its international connections.
This incident marks a significant attack on a religious site in Amritsar city, which is close to the Pakistani border. The assailants hurled an explosive device at the Thakurdwara Temple complex, causing damage to its walls and breaking window panes.
CCTV footage captured the attackers arriving on a motorcycle adorned with a flag. After a brief wait, one of them threw the grenade, and both individuals fled the scene.
Authorities believe that this attack was part of a calculated strategy to instill fear during the Holi celebrations.
While the temple's structure was compromised due to the explosion, a priest and his family residing on the upper floor were fortunately unharmed.
Notably, this grenade assault occurred just one day after three motorcycle-borne attackers murdered Mangat Rai Manga, the district president of Shiv Sena, in Moga district, Punjab, due to alleged personal rivalry.
