New Delhi, June 27 (NationPress) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has submitted a chargesheet against seven individuals linked to Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), including three fugitives, regarding the grenade assault on a police station in the Gurdaspur district of Punjab that occurred in December 2024, according to official reports released on Friday.
All seven individuals have been charged under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosive Substances Act, along with additional relevant laws, for their involvement in both the planning and execution of the attack that transpired on December 12, 2024.
The attack on the Ghanie Ke Bangar police station in Batala, Gurdaspur district, was claimed via social media by BKI members Harpreet Singh, also known as Happy Passia, and Gurpreet, referred to as Gopi.
Passia, who resides in the US, along with Pakistan-based terrorists Harwinder Singh, referred to as Rinda, and Shamsher Singh, who is also known as Shera or Honey, are among the three accused who are currently absconding, as noted in the NIA's chargesheet for case RC-07/2025/NIA/DLI.
The anti-terror agency has identified the four arrested individuals as Kuljit Singh, Abhijot Singh, Gurjinder Singh, and Shubham, all hailing from the village of Qila Lal Singh in Batala, Punjab.
The NIA took over the investigation from the state police on March 23 of this year.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Happy Passia recruited Abhijot Singh at the direction of Rinda, facilitated by his associate Shamsher Singh in Armenia, to execute the terror attack.
Abhijot has also been arrested by the NIA in connection to a separate case involving a targeted shooting in Sector 10, Chandigarh.
Upon returning from Armenia, Abhijot was involved in the transportation of weapons and explosives as directed by his handlers abroad.
He expanded his criminal network by recruiting Kuljit Singh and other suspects. Kuljit was responsible for acquiring the grenade on December 9 for the police station attack. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Previously, Punjab's Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) for the Border Range, Satinder Singh, stated that following the attack on police facilities, Batala Police initiated a specialized operation to identify the attackers.
Utilizing both technical and human intelligence, police teams, supervised by Senior Superintendent of Police, Batala, Suhail Qasim Mir, successfully tracked and apprehended all suspects involved.
