Jammu, June 23 (NationPress) A local court in J&K’s Jammu city has approved a five-day remand for two individuals arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for allegedly providing shelter to terrorists involved in the Pahalgam terror attack.

NIA sources reported that a local court granted the agency a five-day custody for the two men arrested for harboring the Pakistani terrorists responsible for the devastating attack on April 22.

The accused, Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar from Batkote, Pahalgam, and Bashir Ahmad Jothar from Hill Park, Pahalgam, were apprehended on Sunday, marking a significant advancement in the ongoing investigation into the assault that resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, including 25 tourists and a local pony owner, with 16 others injured.

The NIA stated that the detained suspects have revealed the identities of the three armed terrorists involved in the assault, confirming their association with the banned group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and their Pakistani nationality.

Both suspects were presented before Additional District and Sessions Judge, Jammu, Ritesh Kumar Dubey, who sanctioned their custody until June 27.

According to NIA investigations, Parvaiz and Bashir knowingly sheltered the three terrorists in a seasonal hut at Hill Park, Pahalgam, prior to the attack.

The two men provided food, shelter, and logistical support to the terrorists, who selectively targeted tourists based on their religious identity, making it one of the most heinous terrorist incidents in recent history, as per the agency's findings.

The terror attack, executed by Pakistan-backed LeT operatives in Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam, sparked outrage across the nation.

In response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi authorized the armed forces to retaliate against the Pahalgam attack, leading to targeted strikes on terrorist infrastructure in locations such as Muridke near Lahore, Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Pakistan's response included heavy artillery shelling on civilian areas in Poonch, Rajouri, Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora districts.

The shelling resulted in the deaths of 18 civilians, including 13 in Poonch, and extensive destruction of homes, shops, a Gurudwara, a temple, and a church in the region.
