Bengaluru, July 9 (NationPress) The Special NIA Court in Bengaluru has officially transferred the custody of three arrested individuals associated with a prison radicalisation case to the National Investigation Agency for a duration of six days.
The accused, Anees Fathima, Chan Pasha, and Dr. Nagaraj S., were presented before the court today by a team led by Dy SP Susheela. The judge issued an order for the custody handover to the NIA until July 14.
The NIA apprehended these individuals on Tuesday, including a prison psychiatrist and a City Armed Reserve (CAT) policeman, as part of their extensive investigations into the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror group's activities within prisons this year.
Anees Fathima is identified as the tenth accused, Chan Pasha as the eleventh, and Dr. Nagaraj S. as the twelfth.
According to the NIA, Anees Fathima, residing in Bhuvaneshwari Nagar, Sultanpalya, R.T. Nagar, Bengaluru, is linked to the absconding accused Junaid Ahmed and has been implicated in facilitating monetary transactions with other co-accused.
Chan Pasha, a Reserve Police Sub-Inspector, provided crucial police escort information for Accused No.1 - T. Naseer to other co-accused and allegedly received illegal payments in return.
Dr. Nagaraj, a psychiatrist at Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara, Bengaluru, assisted in smuggling mobile phones to T. Naseer, which were then utilized by other suspects to further the activities of LeT.
The NIA stated, "Searches were conducted across five locations in Bengaluru and Kolar districts, resulting in the arrests of Dr. Nagaraj, ASI Chan Pasha, and Anees Fathima, the mother of an absconding accused. Various digital devices, cash, gold, and incriminating documents were seized during these operations."
The ongoing investigation links this case to the recovery of arms, ammunition, explosives, and digital devices, including two walkie-talkies, from habitual offenders conspiring to instigate terror activities in Bengaluru and promoting the agenda of the proscribed terrorist organization LeT.
As per the NIA's findings, Dr. Nagaraj was allegedly involved in smuggling mobile phones for incarcerated individuals, including T. Naseer, a lifetime convict in terror-related cases.
Additionally, the residences of Nagaraj and another individual named Pavithra were searched, along with the home of Anees Fathima, who was involved in transmitting instructions from Naseer to her son for fundraising purposes.
Moreover, ASI Chan Pasha was involved in relaying information concerning Naseer’s escort from prison to various courts in exchange for payment.
The NIA has already filed charges against nine individuals, including the absconder Junaid Ahmed, under multiple sections of the IPC, UA(P) Act, Arms Act, and Explosive Substances Act. Investigations are ongoing to locate the absconder.
