BJP's Nitin Nabin visits Patna Durga Puja pandals on 17-18 October
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Nitin Nabin arrived in Patna on 17 October for a two-day visit to offer prayers at Durga Puja pandals and attend the party's organisational programmes, coinciding with the peak of the festive season in Bihar.
Day 1: Prayers at Dak Bungalow Chauraha
According to the BJP's official programme schedule, Nabin visited the historic Dak Bungalow Chauraha Durga Puja pandal at 3 p.m. on Saturday to offer prayers to Goddess Durga. The Dak Bungalow Chauraha pandal is among the most prominent and widely visited Durga Puja venues in Patna, drawing large crowds during the festival period.
Day 2: Party Meetings and More Pandal Visits
On Sunday, 18 October, Nabin is scheduled to participate in a series of programmes spanning from 9 a.m. to 5:40 p.m., including organisational meetings and interactions with BJP workers. He is also expected to visit additional Durga Puja pandals and offer prayers for the welfare of the people, blending religious engagement with party outreach.
Traffic Curbs Across Patna Through 20 October
The Patna district administration has announced comprehensive traffic restrictions from 3 p.m. on 17 October through 10 p.m. on 20 October to manage festival crowds. Vehicles will be prohibited on the stretch between Dak Bungalow Chauraha and Kotwali during this period.
The restrictions were announced jointly by the District Magistrate, the Senior Superintendent of Police, and the Traffic Superintendent of Police. Ambulances, hearses, emergency vehicles, and vehicles carrying authorised passes are exempt from the curbs.
One-way arrangements and diversions will be implemented at key locations including Income Tax Golambar, Bailey Road (including the area around Rajabazar flyover), Ashok Rajpath, Patna City, and the New Bypass. The movement of goods and passenger vehicles — including buses, trucks, tractors, and light commercial vehicles such as Tata 407s — has been suspended within the Patna Municipal Corporation area for the festival period.
Notably, vehicles associated with metro construction and other infrastructure projects have also been prohibited within the municipal corporation limits until 21 October.
Significance of the Visit
The trip underscores the BJP's effort to maintain a visible presence during one of Bihar's most significant festive occasions. Durga Puja draws millions of devotees across the state, and senior party leaders visiting pandals is a longstanding practice that combines cultural participation with voter outreach. The visit comes as the BJP continues to consolidate its organisational base in Bihar ahead of future electoral cycles.
