On Sunday night, the BJP lodged a complaint against eight individuals at the Nagrakata Police Station in Jalpaiguri district and organized a protest outside the police station, pressing for action against those involved.
According to police statements on Tuesday, the investigation is ongoing.
"We have received a complaint, and an investigation is underway. However, no arrests have been made at this point," stated a senior officer from the Jalpaiguri district police.
BJP Maldaha Uttar MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh were attacked by a group of assailants while en route to provide aid to victims of the North Bengal landslides.
While Ghosh suffered minor injuries, the two-time BJP MP incurred serious wounds to his face and head.
The BJP MP was quickly transported to a primary health center for treatment and is currently stable at a hospital in Siliguri.
Following the assault, the BJP accused the Trinamool Congress of orchestrating the violence and criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for failing to protect an elected representative.
In light of the attack, the BJP filed a complaint against Masum Akhtar, Mohammad Milan, Saibul Haque, Mohammad Sanu, Pinky Begum, Rahul Ansari, Ainul Ansari, and Ramzan Alid at the Nagrakata police station for their alleged involvement in the attack on BJP leaders.
BJP Alipurduar MP Manoj Tigga and other party officials protested outside the Nagrakata police station, demanding the swift apprehension of the accused.
They also conducted a torchlight rally in the vicinity. "We are giving the police a 24-hour ultimatum. If the miscreants connected to the Trinamool are not arrested, we cannot guarantee the law and order situation in the district will remain stable. We are not here for political games; we came to assist those affected by the floods. We have filed a complaint against eight individuals, all of whom are linked to Trinamool," said Tigga.
Meanwhile, a political controversy has erupted surrounding this incident. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his outrage over the attack on the MP and MLA via his X handle. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also responded, criticizing the Prime Minister for his remarks.
