Kolkata, Oct 14 (NationPress) The father of the Durgapur gang-rape victim expressed on Tuesday that no representatives from the state administration have reached out to him after this tragic event.

In a statement to the media, he voiced his frustration towards the authorities, claiming that no one has inquired about his daughter's health.

"I demand the arrest of all the perpetrators. The guilty must face severe consequences; otherwise, similar incidents will recur. No official from the administration has contacted me. I have lost faith in the West Bengal Chief Minister. However, I have been receiving calls from all the Superintendents and Deputy Superintendents of Police in my state. I have also reached out to the Odisha Chief Minister, seeking assistance to transfer my daughter to Bhubaneswar for treatment," he stated.

On the same day, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had a conversation with the victim's mother.

During the call, he reassured her family that the Odisha government would provide support during this difficult time.

The Chief Minister also checked on the victim's health status.

Earlier on Monday, a two-member delegation from the Odisha Women's Commission visited the victim.

In response to the victim's father's statements, Leader of Opposition and BJP member Suvendu Adhikari criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for failing to reach out to the family.

"It is deeply shameful to learn that our Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee did not visit or even call the victim's family. Meanwhile, the Odisha Chief Minister expressed condolences and assured future support. Clearly, the West Bengal administration lacks empathy," stated Adhikari.

On October 10, a second-year medical student from Odisha was gang-raped by five individuals in a forested area near a private medical college and hospital in Durgapur, West Burdwan district.

Following the victim's complaint, police apprehended all five suspects, who are currently in custody.

The victim's male friend is also in detention, cooperating with the investigation.

Point of View

It is essential to highlight the urgent need for accountability from state authorities in such serious matters. The lack of communication from the West Bengal administration towards the victim's family raises significant concerns about the system's responsiveness and sensitivity. The response from Odisha's government showcases a stark contrast, emphasizing the importance of compassionate leadership in times of crisis. It is crucial to ensure that victims and their families receive the support they deserve, regardless of regional politics.
