Noida, Jan 20 (NationPress) The investigation into the heartbreaking demise of 27-year-old software engineer Yuvraj Mehta commenced on Tuesday, following a tragic incident where his vehicle plunged into a water-filled ditch in Noida’s Sector-150. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established to look into this case, initiated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath due to serious allegations of negligence.
Ordered to submit their findings within five days, the SIT has already taken significant actions, including the removal of Noida Authority CEO Lokesh M. and the dismissal of a junior engineer. Furthermore, a builder-developer has been detained on charges of criminal negligence, following an FIR filed post-incident.
On Tuesday, the SIT convened at the Noida Authority office around 12:15 p.m., engaging in a nearly three-hour discussion led by ADG, Meerut Zone, Bhanu Bhaskar.
Key officials, including Police Commissioner Lakshmi Singh, District Magistrate Medha Roopam, and Noida Authority Additional CEO Krishna Karunesh, were questioned during the meeting. Various department officials were present with relevant documentation and were called upon as necessary.
The father of the victim, Rajkumar Mehta, was also summoned and questioned for approximately half an hour. He recounted witnessing his son trapped in the sinking vehicle, asserting that around 80 bystanders were present yet none attempted a rescue. His detailed recollection of the accident's events is seen as vital to the investigation. After providing his statement, he was escorted home under police protection.
Subsequent to the meeting, the SIT, along with relevant officials, inspected the accident site in Sector-150, examining the location where the car submerged, the road turn involved in the incident, and the noticeable lack of safety measures.
ADG Bhanu Bhaskar mentioned that the investigation would proceed in three phases, with two phases already completed — the meeting at the authority office and the site visit. The final phase will involve recording statements from all direct and indirect witnesses.
He noted that both civic and police authorities are under examination, and strict actions will be enforced against anyone found culpable.
Sources indicate that statements from several officials within the police, fire department, and district administration will be recorded in the forthcoming days, and additional actions against officials may occur once the report is finalized.
Meanwhile, Noida MP Mahesh Sharma stated on Tuesday that he has discussed the incident with the Chief Minister, asserting that the removal of the Noida CEO and the ongoing inquiry demonstrate the government's commitment to addressing the situation.
“The government stands with the grieving family, and compensation discussions will take place shortly,” he added.
