Hyderabad, Oct 12 (NationPress) The announcement for the by-election in the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency of Hyderabad is set to be made on Monday.
This will kick off the process for candidates to submit their nominations.
As per the timetable released by the Election Commission of India (ECI), the deadline for filing nominations is October 21. The verification of nominations will occur on October 22, and candidates can withdraw their applications until October 24.
The counting of votes is scheduled for November 14, with the election process concluding by November 16.
In related news, the ECI has designated Sanjiv Kumar Lal, an IRS officer from the 2014 batch, as the Expenditure Observer for the Jubilee Hills by-election.
The Expenditure Observer's role is to oversee and monitor the Election Expenditure Monitoring process, ensuring adherence to ECI protocols to uphold transparency and mitigate the impact of monetary influence in elections.
The electoral authorities are rigorously applying the Model Code of Conduct in the area. So far, they have removed 2,176 political posters and banners, with 1,431 taken down from government properties and 745 from private locations.
Officials have emphasized that any breaches of the MCC will face stringent repercussions, reaffirming their commitment to transparency and accountability throughout the election.
This by-election is being conducted under the latest electoral reforms introduced by the ECI, which are being implemented for the first time during the Bihar Assembly elections and the by-elections for eight Assembly constituencies nationwide.
According to C. Sudharshan Reddy, the Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana, these reforms aim to improve voter convenience, transparency, and efficiency in the electoral process.
Key initiatives include limiting the number of voters at each polling station to 1,200 to decrease crowding, adding color photographs of candidates on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for better voter recognition, deploying more female polling staff to boost female voter participation, and enhancing access for senior citizens and individuals with disabilities with ramps, wheelchairs, and transportation facilities.
The final electoral roll indicates that the constituency has 399,000 voters, comprising 207,382 males, 191,593 females, and 25 third-gender voters.
In the previous 2023 Assembly elections, the constituency had 385,287 voters, reflecting a rise of 3.49%.
Voting for the by-election will occur across 407 polling stations located in 139 different areas within the constituency.
The need for this by-election arises from the passing of Maganti Gopinath, the sitting MLA from BRS, in June.
In the 2023 elections, Gopinath achieved a significant victory against former Indian cricket captain and Congress candidate Mohammed Azharuddin by a margin of 16,337 votes.
In a competitive multi-cornered race, Gopinath garnered 80,549 votes, while Azharuddin received 64,212 votes.
The BJP's L. Deepak Reddy finished third with 25,866 votes, and the AIMIM candidate ended in fourth place with just 7,848 votes.
BRS has nominated Gopinath's wife, Maganti Sunitha, as its candidate.
The Congress party has selected Naveen Yadav as its candidate, while the BJP is expected to announce its candidate in the coming days.
