The encounter unfolded during a late-night police operation following credible intelligence regarding criminal activities in the vicinity.
As per police reports, Haseen, who had over 25 criminal cases against him, was allegedly in the midst of planning an incident involving cow slaughter (gokashi) when officers attempted to halt his vehicle. Instead of surrendering, he opened fire on the police. In the ensuing gunfire, he sustained injuries and later died.
Authorities recovered a pistol and a Swift Dzire from the scene. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and an extensive investigation is underway.
Superintendent of Police, Hapur, Kunwar Gyananjay Singh, shared details: “At approximately 12:30 a.m. last night, we received a tip-off in the Kapoorpur area regarding a group of suspects. Responding to this information, the Station House Officer, along with his team, proceeded to the specified location. During the check, they observed a suspicious Swift Dzire car and attempted to stop it. The vehicle's occupants fired at the police, prompting a self-defensive response.”
Singh further noted, “In the crossfire, one assailant was critically injured. He was taken to the Community Health Centre in Dhulana and subsequently referred to Rama Medical College, where he was pronounced dead. The deceased has been identified as Haseen, a resident of Manotta village under the Ashmoli Police Station in Sambhal district.”
Singh highlighted that Haseen had approximately 25-26 criminal cases registered against him, covering severe offenses such as robbery, assault, and illegal possession of arms. He was considered a wanted criminal, with a Rs 50,000 bounty issued by the police. A pistol, live cartridges, and a vehicle have been seized from the encounter site. Ongoing investigations are in progress,” he added.
Police officials confirmed that Haseen was an infamous criminal active in western Uttar Pradesh and had been evading capture for several months. The Hapur police, in collaboration with the Special Operations Group (SOG), had been surveilling his movements based on intelligence reports.
