Ranchi, March 9 (NationPress) The tragic murder of National Thermal Power Corporation's (NTPC) Deputy General Manager (DGM) Kumar Gaurav in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh district has resulted in a complete halt to all mining activities in the area. The incident has instilled a sense of fear among employees and workers, causing operations to cease entirely on Sunday.
In light of this incident, NTPC Director (Fuel) Shivam Srivastava and Director (HR) Anil Kumar Jadli met with Jharkhand Chief Secretary Alka Tiwari to convey the company’s serious concerns regarding the deteriorating security situation. They called on the state administration to take immediate action against those responsible for this heinous act and to ensure the safety of NTPC employees engaged in the district’s mining operations.
Kumar Gaurav was the Deputy General Manager (Dispatch and Billing) at NTPC’s mining project in Keredari. He was shot by unidentified assailants while traveling to his office in an NTPC SUV on Saturday morning around 10 a.m.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the incident. Law enforcement has detained six individuals for questioning related to the murder.
Bokaro Range Inspector General (IG) S. Michael Raj held a high-level meeting with Hazaribagh police officials on Sunday, instructing them to accelerate the investigation. He assured that stringent action would be taken against those involved in the crime. Security forces have heightened their operations, conducting raids in multiple locations to locate the perpetrators.
Jharkhand Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Gupta emphasized that law enforcement agencies are committed to leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of the criminals. “The police will find and apprehend the offenders, regardless of their hiding places,” he asserted.
The repercussions of the murder were immediately felt throughout NTPC’s mining projects in the district. The lifting and transportation of coal at the Pakri Barwadih and Keredari Chatti Bariatu mining sites came to a complete standstill on Sunday. These projects collectively transport about 15 rakes of coal daily to various power plants across the nation, and their disruption could significantly impact power generation.
Meanwhile, employees at NTPC’s North Karanpura project in Tandwa are reportedly feeling anxious, with many voicing concerns regarding their safety.
Over the past decade, four senior officials from NTPC and its outsourcing partners have lost their lives in the region.
