Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday, 10 August distributed appointment letters to 1,326 newly recruited candidates at the 16th Rozgar Mela in Bhubaneswar, underscoring that success in government service is measured not by rank but by the tangible difference an officer makes in citizens' lives. The recruits will join nine state government departments, spanning sectors from health to agriculture.

Key Developments at the Rozgar Mela

The 16th Rozgar Mela saw candidates absorbed into departments including Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water, Energy, Agriculture & Farmers' Empowerment, Health & Family Welfare, Fisheries & Animal Resources, Sports & Youth Services, Skill Development & Technical Education, and Excise. Chief Minister Majhi personally handed over the letters, framing the occasion as a commitment to service-oriented governance.

Addressing the new recruits, Majhi said the primary purpose of a government post is public service, and that time-bound resolution of citizens' problems is a moral obligation. 'Whenever a person approaches you with a problem, listening with respect and taking prompt action is true public service. We aim to ensure that all government benefits and services reach the last mile of society. Perform your duty keeping this in mind,' he said.

Employment Drive Since June 2024

The Chief Minister revealed that since June 2024, the Odisha government has provided employment to 45,408 people in the state sector. He described the recruitment drive as part of a broader push for clean, strong governance backed by disciplined and service-oriented personnel — essential, he argued, to realising the vision of a 'Samruddha Odisha' by 2036 and contributing to a 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047.

Investment Momentum and Reverse Migration

Majhi highlighted that investment proposals worth approximately ₹21 lakh crore have been received by Odisha over the past two years, with the potential to generate 20 lakh employment opportunities. He attributed this to sustained government efforts to promote industrial growth and position the state as an investment destination.

Referring to the recent Odisha Food Processing Roadshow held in New Delhi and Noida, the Chief Minister said he personally conducted 46 meetings with 208 investors, resulting in 38 MoUs being signed. These agreements represent a combined investment of ₹66,392 crore and are projected to create 54,135 new jobs.

Notably, Majhi said reverse migration — the return of Odisha's workforce from other states — has already begun, and that the coming period will see significant shifts in the state's industrial and employment landscape.

This is the 16th edition of the Rozgar Mela since the current administration took office, reflecting a pattern of periodic, high-visibility recruitment events aimed at reducing youth unemployment and countering the state's historically high outmigration.
