Bhubaneswar, July 24 (NationPress) A heated discussion erupted in Odisha after the opposition Congress party proposed a motion to remove the BJP-led state government, citing the increasing incidents of women's atrocities within the state.
The president of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC), Bhakta Charan Das, urged the main opposition party, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), to initiate a no-confidence motion against the state government if they genuinely seek to deliver justice to women in Odisha.
Das confirmed that Congress would back the motion if the BJD chooses to present it. He emphasized that Congress is prepared to introduce the no-confidence motion and called upon the BJD for collaboration.
In response, senior BJD leader Debi Prasad Mishra remarked that the BJD, as a responsible opposition party, has consistently voiced concerns for the populace on critical matters.
Mishra mentioned that a decision regarding the no-confidence motion will be made during the party's legislators' meeting, noting that the party would determine its stance following the assembly session notification.
In reaction to the Congress proposal, Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari stated, “If Congress wishes to bring forth a no-confidence motion, they are entitled to do so. However, attempting to involve the BJD, which has its own political goals, indicates Congress’s lack of preparation and clarity.”
Pujari criticized Congress for being devoid of a solid strategy, accusing them of resorting to theatrical tactics instead of genuine legislative measures.
“We are ready to confront any motion in the Assembly. However, if Congress wants to be taken seriously, they must present substantial facts and arguments. Otherwise, it will likely backfire,” he cautioned.
He added that the BJP government has been operating transparently and has undertaken significant initiatives for Odisha’s development over the past year.
“Let us have a debate in the Assembly and allow the people of Odisha to determine who is truly committed to the state’s advancement,” Pujari concluded.
