Bhubaneswar, July 22 (NationPress) In a decisive action reflecting the Odisha government's unwavering stance on corruption, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has ordered the termination of a doctor who was recently found guilty in a corruption case.
The Chief Minister's Office reported that the convicted individual, Dr. Karunakar Rout, served as the senior medical officer at the District Headquarters Hospital in Bhadrak district. Previously, Rout held the position of Medical Officer at the Madhuban Community Health Centre located in Jajpur district.
As per an official release from the CMO, a case was initiated against Rout by the state vigilance, leading to departmental proceedings against him. He faced suspension along with other penalties following his arrest due to graft allegations.
Acting on the directives from Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the state vigilance department has been rigorously pursuing actions against senior government officials entangled in various corrupt activities.
It is noteworthy that Rout was found guilty by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Cuttack on January 16, 2024, for accepting a bribe from a contractual Health Worker to refrain from taking punitive measures against him for his absence during a state medical team's supervision a few years back.
The court imposed a sentence of two years of rigorous imprisonment on Rout along with a fine of Rs 10,000. Following this conviction, the vigilance department has recommended his dismissal from service to the state government.
In its ongoing campaign against corruption, the Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday apprehended Nityananda Nayak, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) from the Kendu Leaf Division in Keonjhar district, for accumulating assets beyond his disclosed income. During coordinated house raids, vigilance officials uncovered that Nayak possessed disproportionate assets (DA) amounting to 218% of his known income, which he could not justify.
Investigations revealed that a total of 123 landed plots are registered under Nayak and his family members in Angul district. Authorities also discovered a significant farmhouse owned by Nayak in Chhendipada, Angul.
