Bhubaneswar, April 29 (NationPress) The Odisha Vigilance Department has taken a senior officer from the State Excise department into custody after she was found with suspected unaccounted cash exceeding Rs 3 lakh, as reported by officials.
A statement from the Odisha Vigilance revealed that police had received credible intelligence regarding Krishna Nayak, the Superintendent of the Excise Department in Dhenkanal district, allegedly gathering suspected unaccounted cash from various sources.
In response, a team from Odisha Vigilance monitored Nayak's activities closely.
On April 29, Vigilance officials intercepted her on Deulasahi Road, Dhenkanal, while she was driving a Scorpio vehicle with an Odisha state registration number.
During her arrest, officials discovered cash amounting to Rs 3,00,000 in her possession. As Nayak could not adequately explain the presence of such a substantial amount, the cash was confiscated along with her vehicle,” stated the State Vigilance department.
Following her arrest, simultaneous searches were executed at Nayak’s residences in Nimpur, Jagatpur area of Cuttack, a property on Nirbani Lane under Kumbharpada police jurisdiction in Puri district, her ancestral home at Pradhan Sahi in Choudwar, Cuttack, a rental property, and her office in Dhenkanal district.
The Vigilance officials confirmed that the accused Superintendent of Excise, Dhenkanal, is currently in custody for further interrogation.
Reports indicate that the Odisha Vigilance department has registered a total of 200 criminal cases against 308 corrupt officials and private individuals in 2024.
Law enforcement has arrested 181 individuals, including numerous government officials, during this year.
Moreover, in 2024, Odisha Vigilance has achieved an impressive disposal rate of 154 percent.
A total of 307 cases have been resolved following investigations.
Out of these, 105 cases have concluded in convictions, reflecting a conviction rate of 50 percent.
