Bhubaneswar, Aug 6 (NationPress) To establish visual consistency and a unique identity for public infrastructure, the Odisha government has enacted a notification mandating that all government buildings across the state adopt a saffron-themed color code.

According to the notification released by the Works Department on July 30, 2025, this new color scheme will be applied to all new government structures and during renovations of existing ones.

The new standard utilizes saffron-inspired RGB shades, providing a warm and traditional aesthetic to public buildings. An approved color palette has been included as Annexure-1 with the notification.

This initiative takes effect immediately and applies to all state government departments and public sector undertakings.

Officials indicate that the saffron palette will grant a dignified and distinct look to government facilities, resonating with Odisha's cultural richness and architectural style.

The directive was issued under the authority of Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, signifying a new chapter in the state’s approach to infrastructure branding and maintenance.

Since taking office, the BJP government led by Mohan Charan Majhi has initiated a transformation of the visual landscape of various government buildings and facilities, including state-owned transport (the LAccMI buses) and educational institutions, adopting saffron as the primary color.

In an effort to eliminate the legacy of the previous Biju Janata Dal (BJD) administration, the BJP has replaced the green color—associated with the opposition party's symbol—with saffron, highlighting a decisive break from former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's 24-year tenure.

Additionally, reports indicate that the state government has mandated that primary school students will carry saffron ID cards starting from the 2025–26 academic year.

Meanwhile, the Biju Janata Dal and Congress have criticized the BJP-led government for its decision to implement saffron across various sectors.
