Bhubaneswar, Oct 13 (NationPress) Odisha's Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reached out via phone to the Odia girl who was gang-raped in Durgapur, West Bengal, along with her mother and Odisha State Commission for Women Chairperson Shobhana Mohanty, who is currently in the state.
During the conversation, the Chief Minister reassured the victim, stating, “Don’t worry, the Odisha government stands firmly with you.”
Majhi expressed his hopes for the victim's quick recovery and committed to arranging her education and rehabilitation.
He reiterated the government's determination to ensure the culprits face justice swiftly.
While speaking with the victim's mother, the Chief Minister affirmed Odisha's ongoing efforts to secure exemplary punishment for the accused.
Majhi also advised Chairperson Shobhana Mohanty to maintain close coordination with the West Bengal government and take all necessary actions to secure justice for the victim.
He stressed that all avenues would be explored to exert pressure for immediate action.
The victim is undergoing treatment, and the Chief Minister had previously spoken with her father.
The father of the second-year medical student stated his intent to bring her back to Odisha once she has provided her statement before a judicial magistrate.
On Monday afternoon, the victim’s father also met with West Bengal Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari.
Adhikari assured the victim’s father that he would arrange transportation for her.
He also informed him that he would communicate with Chief Minister Majhi and other BJP leaders, including Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, to ensure all necessary arrangements are made in Odisha.
Furthermore, the BJP leader inquired whether West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had contacted him.
To this, the victim's father replied, "We spoke to the Chief Minister of Odisha. However, we have not heard from the Chief Minister of West Bengal."
