According to the S&ME department's notification, after thorough evaluation, the government is excited to announce that the National Education Policy 2020, as established by the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, will be enacted in Odisha.

The department also revealed that the National Curriculum Framework will be embraced alongside NEP 2020.

It is important to note that Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi previously announced in November 2024 the decision to implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 across all state-run universities and associated colleges starting from the current academic year.

The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) had also indicated in its November statement that the state has developed a credit framework in alignment with guidelines from the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Under this framework, students can participate in skill development, internships, community service, and extracurricular activities, including NCC and NSS, to accumulate credits.

The Odisha government established a task force in October 2024 to propose strategies for effectively implementing the NEP in the state.

As per the notification released by the S&ME department on October 17 last year, the Development Commissioner cum Additional Chief Secretary has been assigned the responsibility to recommend measures for the NEP 2020 implementation in Odisha.

Significantly, NEP 2020 seeks to bring about a considerable transformation in the education system to elevate India to a global knowledge superpower.
