Bhubaneswar, Nov 4 (NationPress) In response to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s directive, the Odisha government has contacted the Union Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to urgently assist in the rescue of Adarsha Kumar Behera, a young man hailing from Jagatsinghpur district, who is reported missing in Sudan.
As per a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), after being informed of the situation through media coverage, CM Majhi directed senior state officials to act swiftly.
Following the Chief Minister’s orders, the Director General of Intelligence reached out to the MEA, requesting it to take essential actions for Adarsha’s safe return.
Moreover, the Resident Commissioner in New Delhi has also engaged with the MEA, asking for coordination with the Indian Embassy in Sudan to locate Adarsha and assist in his safe repatriation.
The Chief Minister reassured Adarsha’s family of the state government’s unwavering support and urged them to remain hopeful as efforts to secure his safe return are ongoing.
Reportedly, Adarsha, a resident of Kotakana village under Tirtol police jurisdiction, has been employed in Sudan as a plastic operator since 2022.
In a conversation with the media, Adarsha’s wife stated that she had recently received a distressing call from her husband, during which he expressed that he was trapped in Sudan.
She further mentioned that while Adarsha was attempting to escape the African nation with help from his employer, he and two others were seized by rebels.
Adarsha’s wife added that in the video messages they have been receiving sporadically, her husband revealed that he was being assaulted and mistreated by the rebels in Sudan.
Sources indicate that Adarsha is the sole son of his parents, who work as daily wage laborers to make a living. Adarsha had previously traveled to Gujarat in search of employment before making his way to Sudan.
“I urge the government to ensure my husband returns to Odisha as soon as possible,” pleaded Adarsha’s wife.
