Bhubaneswar, Sep 14 (NationPress) The opposition parties, including the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress, vehemently criticized the Odisha state government on Sunday regarding the ongoing fertilizer crisis affecting multiple districts in the region.
During a media briefing, senior BJD figure Prasanna Acharya challenged the government's assertions about the adequate availability of fertilizer, accusing them of misleading both the public and farmers with these untruths.
“I urge the state government to assess the actual situation regarding fertilizer supply. Instead of making claims from Bhubaneswar, ministers should visit rural areas. If they genuinely believe farmers are receiving sufficient fertilizer, we would consider their statements credible. Currently, there is a widespread fertilizer shortage, with farmers often queuing for miles at Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) in various districts,” Acharya stated.
He highlighted that farmers are compelled to purchase fertilizer from the open market at prices significantly inflated—two to three times higher than the regulated rates.
Acharya further claimed that this scenario suggests there is ample fertilizer in the state, but the government fails to manage its distribution effectively.
The senior BJD official also announced plans for a protest regarding the fertilizer shortage at the Raj Bhawan in Bhubaneswar on Monday, seeking assistance from the Odisha governor to address the situation.
