Odisha's Clean Energy Vision Amplified: CM Majhi Applauds Green Hydrogen Jetty Approval at Paradip Port
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhubaneswar, February 27 (NationPress) Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal for their endorsement of the construction of a dedicated ₹797.17 crore jetty at Paradip Port aimed at managing green hydrogen, ammonia, and various liquid cargo.
In a post on his X handle, CM Majhi highlighted that this initiative will bolster Odisha's position as a forward-thinking maritime economy and enhance its involvement in the burgeoning green energy sector.
“With a handling capacity of 4 MTPA, this development will link Odisha's progressive green hydrogen production hubs with international markets, improve clean energy export logistics, and support India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission. This initiative will also stimulate green investments, create job opportunities, and solidify Odisha’s commitment to fostering a sustainable maritime economy,” stated Majhi.
It is noteworthy that the project received approval on Thursday and will be executed by the Paradip Port Authority under a build-operate-transfer (BOT) model. The facility is designed to manage 4.0 million tonnes per annum and aims to elevate Paradip Port as a central hub for green energy cargo. The infrastructure will encompass a dedicated jetty, extensive storage systems, pipelines, handling equipment, and other necessary facilities.
The jetty will feature a center-to-center distance of 279 meters between the outer dolphins, with a dredged depth of 14.3 meters in front of the berth, facilitating the safe handling of liquid cargo vessels.
The Paradip Port Authority will contribute capital support amounting to 20% of the total project cost, which is ₹159.43 crore, during the construction phase. The project is slated for completion within 24 months.
Officials mentioned that this endeavor aligns with the goals of the National Green Hydrogen Mission and is expected to bolster investments in green energy infrastructure in Odisha while enhancing port-based logistics for clean energy products.
The proposed jetty will feature specialized infrastructure and advanced safety systems designed for the handling and storage of green energy derivatives and other liquid cargo, thereby promoting the development of an integrated green hydrogen ecosystem surrounding Paradip Port.
