Jammu, Jan 23 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of J&K, Omar Abdullah, on Thursday underscored the visionary reforms of B R Ambedkar and Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah in promoting equality and justice.

During the inauguration of the BR Ambedkar Bhawan, built by the BR Ambedkar Educational Society in Bari Brahmana Jammu, he stressed the importance of land reforms in Jammu and Kashmir as a crucial move towards empowering the marginalized.

“Ambedkar was instrumental in formulating the Indian constitution, which guarantees equal rights devoid of discrimination. He dedicated his life to advocating for the rights of marginalized communities, allowing them to reclaim their voice, identity, and dignity. In Jammu and Kashmir, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah's efforts in implementing land reforms aligned with this vision, reinstating dignity and hope for the oppressed. The connection between land and identity is profound, making its preservation vital for our heritage and future,” the Chief Minister articulated.

He commended Ambedkar’s belief in education as a driving force for change.

“The formation of this educational society in honor of Ambedkar epitomizes his vision. This land is now dedicated to a library, study circle, and community hall rather than commercial purposes. These resources will empower the youth to delve into Ambedkar’s teachings and engage in scholarly pursuits, while also serving as a venue for social interactions and support for those in need,” he remarked.

Reflecting on Ambedkar’s pivotal role in shaping India’s constitution, Omar Abdullah remarked on its groundbreaking tenets. “Ambedkar guaranteed equality from the outset, granting women equal voting rights when many nations denied such fundamental liberties. His vision laid the groundwork for justice and equality, which remains unmatched today,” he stated.

He recognized the existing disparities in representation and emphasized the necessity for enhanced efforts to fulfill Ambedkar’s aspiration for genuine equality.

“Had Ambedkar anticipated the underrepresentation of women in legislative bodies by 2025, he might have instituted reservations for women from the beginning. Although we have made advancements, with women reaching significant positions like prime ministers and presidents, the path to equality is still ahead of us,” he observed.

The Chief Minister also pointed out India’s progress in gender equality, surpassing many countries.

“Unlike some nations that have yet to elect a female leader, India’s progress in empowering women confirms Ambedkar’s vision,” he concluded.

In closing, Omar Abdullah assured the audience that the Charter of Demands presented during the event would receive proper consideration.

“I assure you that all efforts will be directed towards addressing your concerns and fulfilling your requests,” he stated.

The Chief Minister expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to inaugurate the Bhawan, characterizing it as a landmark institution that embodies Ambedkar’s principles of education, equality, and progress.
