New Delhi, Oct 29 (NationPress) The effects of Cyclone Montha are becoming more pronounced across Bihar, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for multiple districts. According to the latest forecasts from the IMD, regions such as West Champaran, Kaimur, Banka, Rohtas, Gaya, Sheikhpura, and Nawada are anticipated to experience moderate to heavy rainfall on Wednesday due to the cyclone’s outer bands advancing northward.
This cyclonic system is also expected to lead to a significant drop in temperatures and strong gusty winds in parts of southern and western Bihar over the next 24 hours. The weather office has advised farmers to halt harvesting and drying activities, while urging residents to stay away from open areas and fragile structures.
Meanwhile, the IMD has confirmed that the landfall of the 'severe' Cyclone Montha commenced early off the Andhra Pradesh coast, specifically between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, near the Kakinada district. According to Dr. M. Mohapatra, Director General of the IMD, the landfall process will persist for three to four hours. The storm has been moving north-northwest at approximately 15 kmph over the past six hours and intensified into a severe cyclonic storm around 5:30 a.m.
The Andhra Pradesh government has implemented extensive preparedness measures as Montha is expected to impact 403 mandals across 22 districts. The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) reports that nearly 76,000 individuals have been evacuated to relief camps, and 219 medical camps have been established. To ensure emergency communication, authorities have deployed 81 wireless towers and 21 high-intensity lamps.
The IMD has issued a 'cyclone warning' for the Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and South Odisha coasts, predicting wind speeds of 92–117 kmph in central and northern Andhra Pradesh, along with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Telangana, South Chhattisgarh, and Odisha.
