Agartala, March 18 (NationPress) The opposition parties, CPI-M and Congress, have both called for the dismissal of a Tripura Minister from the state Cabinet due to his extremely derogatory and highly objectionable remarks.
The ruling BJP's ally, the Tipra Motha Party (TMP), has also expressed disapproval of the State Scheduled Castes Welfare, Fisheries and Animal Resource Development Departments Minister Sudhangshu Das for his offensive comments.
The Tripura Insaf Parishad, a Muslim organization, has demanded legal action against the Minister for his statements.
TMP leader and former royal figure of Tripura, Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, stated: "Anyone who takes an oath on the Constitution of India should not make such remarks. I am truly shocked and denounce such language from anyone, especially those in significant governmental positions."
The Leader of the Opposition (LoP) and State CPI-M Secretary, Jitendra Chaudhury, cited the Minister's statement regarding the destruction of numerous Hindu temples during Aurangzeb's reign and the killing of many Hindus, Marathas, and Sikhs.
He elaborated, "Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru, and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj were brutally executed by Aurangzeb for opposing forced conversions to Islam. The opposing political parties, including the Samajwadi Party, Congress, and the Leftists, share the same ideology of Islamic brutality, fanaticism, and uncivilized violence as Aurangzeb practiced. It is crucial for democratic citizens to recognize these truths and understand the threat these parties pose to the nation," Chaudhury said, referring to Minister Das’s recent social media posts.
The LoP wrote to Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, stating, "Such dangerously divisive and provocative communal remarks aimed at splintering society are particularly concerning when made by a responsible person like a state Cabinet member, who has sworn to uphold the Constitution, including its secular principles. This behavior is not just unconstitutional and unethical; it also constitutes a criminal act."
In his letter to the Governor, Chaudhury, a former Minister himself, insisted on the Minister's removal, noting that this is not the first occurrence of such abhorrent remarks from Minister Das, indicating a habitual pattern of unconstitutional and criminal thinking.
Senior Congress figure and former Minister Birajit Sinha expressed concern that the Minister's comments could disrupt communal harmony and should be promptly removed from social media.
Sinha, who represents the Kailashahar Assembly constituency, emphasized that as a responsible state minister, Das's remarks could incite tension by referencing events from the Mughal era.
"The Minister has previously made similar statements on Facebook, harming Hindu-Muslim relations. He needs to focus on promoting peace in the state as a responsible Minister. His comments on Facebook are highly sensitive and should be deleted immediately," Sinha informed the press.
Earlier this week, the Tripura Insaf Parishad filed a case against Minister Das at the Irani police station in Kailashahar, Unakoti district, accusing him of inciting communal hatred through social media.
They reiterated their call for legal action against the Tripura Minister due to his actions.
