Chandigarh, Sep 22 (NationPress) Over 600 students from Indian Air Force (IAF) schools nationwide, representing seven commands, are set to compete in 13 disciplines, including athletics and various sporting events, during the 14th edition of the All India Air Force Schools Athletics and Sports Championship. This exciting event will take place from September 24 to 26 at the Sports Complex in Sector 7.
The championship aims to ignite the spirit of athleticism and sportsmanship and is organized under the guidance of the IAF Educational and Cultural Society. This prestigious annual event aligns with the Khelo Bharat Niti – 2025 and emphasizes the theme “Sports for Nation Building – Harnessing the Power of Sports for Nation's Holistic Development”.
This initiative seeks to strengthen the sporting culture at the grassroots level, nurture young talent, and transform sports into a movement focused on health, wellness, and excellence. The championship not only promotes healthy competition but also instills the values of discipline, teamwork, and an active lifestyle among students in the IAF schools community.
Air Commodore Nipun Gupta, Air Officer Commanding Base Repair Depot in Chandigarh, unveiled the Overall Champions Trophy and the Official Mascot, Phoenix.
During a media briefing about the championship, he noted that the Phoenix “symbolizes resilience and determination, inspiring children to overcome challenges and embodying the true spirit of sportsmanship.” Nipun Gupta further highlighted that the championship is a cornerstone of the IAF's commitment to holistic student development, promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and discipline alongside academic excellence.
The opening ceremony is slated for September 24, with Air Marshal Vijay Kumar Garg, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Maintenance Command, attending as the chief guest.
The closing ceremony will occur on September 26, presided over by Air Marshal S Sivakumar, Air Officer-in-Charge Administration. This marks the third time the Base Repair Depot, Chandigarh, is hosting the championship.
