Heightened tensions between the two nations have emerged following the horrific killings of 26 civilians by terrorists supported by Pakistan.

In his initial comments regarding the Pahalgam terror incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Thursday that those responsible for the terror acts, along with their operatives and supporters, will be pursued relentlessly.

A major anti-terror operation has been ongoing in the Baisaran meadow area of Pahalgam for the fourth consecutive day, aiming to locate and eliminate the terrorists involved in the civilian deaths.

In related operations, one soldier lost his life on Thursday during a confrontation between security forces and terrorists in Udhampur district.

The Army disclosed that a joint operation with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, initiated based on specific intelligence, took place on Thursday in Basantgarh, Udhampur. Contact was made, leading to intense gunfire. “One of our brave soldiers sustained severe injuries during the initial exchange and later succumbed despite the best medical efforts. Operations are still ongoing.”

Another encounter erupted on Thursday in the Kulgam district between security forces and terrorists.

The operation against the terrorists began with gunfire exchanges; however, as of Friday morning, no further gunfire has been reported.

Security forces launched an additional operation in the Poonch district targeting terrorists on Thursday.

Currently, three operations are in progress, in addition to the extensive anti-terror operation in the Baisaran area, aimed at tracking down those responsible for the massacre of civilians.

The operation in Baisaran is being assisted by technology, including drones, helicopters, electronic surveillance, and sniffer dogs. Security forces have been given explicit orders to hunt down the individuals responsible for the deaths of 26 civilians, including 25 tourists and one local resident.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the site to deliver a strong warning to the perpetrators of the Baisaran meadow massacre. In response to the Pahalgam terror attack, India has suspended the Indus Water Treaty established between the two nations in 1960. The Attari border crossing has been closed, Pakistani nationals have been instructed to leave within 48 hours, and the staff of India’s High Commission in Pakistan has been reduced to 30 percent.
