New Delhi, May 10 (NationPress) The Ministry of Defence announced on Saturday in a press release that drones have been detected at 26 sites along the International Border and the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan, some of which are believed to be armed unmanned aerial vehicles.

The identified locations encompass Baramulla, Srinagar, Avantipora, Nagrota, Jammu, Ferozpur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Lalgarh Jatta, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bhuj, Kuarbet, and Lakhi Nala, as stated in the press release.

A spokesperson for the Ministry remarked, "Unfortunately, an armed drone targeted a civilian area in Ferozpur, injuring members of a local family. Medical assistance has been provided to the injured, and security forces have sanitized the area."

He further mentioned, "The Indian Armed Forces are on high alert, tracking and engaging all aerial threats using counter-drone technologies. The situation is under constant surveillance, and timely actions are taken as required."

The Ministry of Defence urged residents, particularly in border areas, to stay indoors, minimize unnecessary movements, and adhere strictly to safety guidelines from local authorities, emphasizing that while there is no need for panic, vigilance and caution are crucial.

Previously, India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri criticized Pakistan's "ridiculous denials" regarding its attempts to target military sites in India, labeling it an instance of "duplicity." He also stated that India has reacted "proportionately" and "adequately" to such provocations.

Colonel Sofiya Qureshi of the Indian Army reported that Pakistan deployed 300-400 drones across 36 locations during the night of May 8 to May 9, and preliminary investigations indicated that Turkey's SONGAR drones were utilized in these operations.

Colonel Qureshi noted that both kinetic and non-kinetic measures were employed to "neutralize" the drones, and highlighted that a Pakistani UAV attempted to strike a military station in Bathinda, but this attempt was successfully thwarted by the Indian Armed Forces.

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, NSA Ajit Doval, and the leaders of all Armed Forces.

Tragically, one woman lost her life, and four civilians were injured on Thursday night as Pakistan escalated its artillery bombardment across the Line of Control in Kashmir.

Point of View

My perspective aligns with a commitment to national security. The detection of Pakistani drones highlights escalating tensions that necessitate a robust defense strategy. While maintaining vigilance is crucial, it is equally important to navigate these challenges with a focus on diplomacy and peace.
