Guwahati, May 10 (NationPress) Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that local law enforcement has detained three additional individuals for allegedly disseminating 'Pro-Pakistan' content on social media.
The individuals apprehended have been named Nasim Uddin Laskar, Arif Rehman, and Abubin Miraz Uddin S.K.
Laskar was captured in Cachar district, while Rehman and Uddin S.K. were arrested in the Dhubri district.
With these latest arrests, the overall number of individuals detained for expressing support for Pakistan has risen to 48.
CM Sarma stated, "To date, 48 individuals labeled as Anti Nationals have been apprehended due to their treachery."
Among those detained, the most notable figure is Aminul Islam, an MLA from the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).
Islam was the first individual arrested in the state for his "pro-Pakistan" views.
He was taken into custody on May 1 on charges of sedition after making incendiary comments about a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in over 20 fatalities.
In a video that circulated online, Aminul Islam is heard alleging that the attacks in Pahalgam and Pulwama were part of a "government conspiracy".
Islam stated, "Six years ago in Pulwama, when the RDX explosion occurred, resulting in the death of 42 soldiers, I claimed then that the attack was orchestrated by a conspiracy from the Central government, intended to influence the 2019 Lok Sabha elections."
He further asserted that the narrative being pushed by the BJP suggests that terrorists queried victims about their religion and targeted only Hindus, sparing Muslims.
However, he claimed that victims reported that the attackers opened fire indiscriminately and expressed skepticism about the nexus involved in the Pulwama attack.
Islam warned, "If the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government fails to conduct a thorough investigation and attempts to sow discord between Hindus and Muslims, I will conclude that this incident was a result of conspiracy."
In response, AIUDF Chief Badruddin Ajmal distanced the party from Islam's remarks.
Ajmal reiterated, "AIUDF supports the government. Terrorists have no religion, and those who perpetrate terrorism are against Islam."
