Guwahati, May 3 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has confirmed that the state police have taken another suspect into custody on accusations of endorsing Pakistan.
On Friday, Chief Minister Sarma announced that an individual named Amar Ali was apprehended in the Dhubri district for openly defending Pakistan while residing in India.
In a statement on X, he declared, "A total of 37 anti-nationals have been arrested so far. All these anti-nationals will face stringent actions by @assampolice."
Among the 37 detainees, the most notable is Aminul Islam, a legislator from the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).
He was the first individual detained in the state for his pro-Pakistan remarks.
Aminul Islam, representing Assam's Dhing Assembly constituency, was arrested on Thursday on charges of sedition for his incendiary comments concerning a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in more than 20 deaths.
A video shared on social media shows the AIUDF leader suggesting that the Pahalgam and Pulwama attacks were orchestrated as part of a government conspiracy.
He claimed: "Six years ago in Pulwama, following the RDX explosion that took the lives of 42 soldiers, I stated that the Pulwama blast was a conspiracy of the Central government, aimed at influencing the 2019 Lok Sabha polls."
He further remarked that the BJP has been propagating false narratives about the attackers, claiming they targeted only Hindus while sparing Muslims.
"However, the survivors reported that the shooters did not inquire about anyone's identity, and I suspect that the same group involved in the Pulwama incident is connected to the events in Pahalgam."
"If the government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi fails to conduct a thorough investigation and attempts to drive a wedge between Hindus and Muslims, I will come to believe that this incident was indeed a conspiracy," Aminul Islam stated, while criticizing PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Nevertheless, AIUDF Chief Badruddin Ajmal distanced himself from the comments made by the party legislator.
Ajmal stated, "AIUDF supports the government. Terrorists are devoid of any religion, and those who propagate terrorism are against Islam."
