Guwahati, June 1 (NationPress) - The Assam Police have apprehended two individuals for allegedly expressing pro-Pakistan sentiments on social media, as confirmed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday.
The suspects have been named as Md Dilbar Hussain and Hafizur Rahman.
Hussain was detained in the Sonitpur district, while Rahman was taken into custody in the Kamrup district.
According to CM Sarma, a total of 81 individuals with anti-national affiliations are currently incarcerated for showing support for Pakistan.
He stated, "Our systems are vigilant and constantly monitor anti-national activities on social media, ensuring prompt action is taken."
Among those arrested, the most notable is Aminul Islam, an MLA from the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).
Islam was the first individual apprehended in the state for his pro-Pakistan stance.
The AIUDF MLA from Dhing Assembly constituency was arrested on May 1 under sedition charges, following his controversial remarks regarding the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in 26 fatalities.
In a viral video, Islam is seen asserting that the Pahalgam and Pulwama attacks were orchestrated as part of a government conspiracy.
He stated, "Six years ago, during the RDX blast in Pulwama, which claimed 42 soldiers' lives, I remarked that this incident was a conspiracy by the Central government, aimed at influencing the 2019 Lok Sabha elections."
Islam further alleged that the BJP has been propagating the claim that terrorists targeted only Hindus while sparing Muslims.
"However, eyewitnesses reported that the terrorists indiscriminately opened fire without inquiring about anyone's identity, leading me to suspect that the same group behind the Pulwama attack is involved in the recent Pahalgam incident," he said.
He urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government to conduct a thorough investigation, warning against attempts to create divisions between Hindus and Muslims.
AIUDF Chief Badruddin Ajmal subsequently distanced the party from Islam's remarks, stating, "AIUDF supports the government. Terrorism transcends religion, and those who promote it are against Islam."
