Guwahati, May 26 (NationPress) The Assam Police apprehended two additional individuals on Monday due to their pro-Pakistan sentiments expressed through social media platforms, as reported by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
According to Sarma, Hamidul Islam was detained in the Goalpara district, while Rupam Saikia was arrested in the Majuli district. The Chief Minister stated, "A total of 78 anti-national elements have been incarcerated for expressing sympathy towards the enemy nation on social media."
Among those detained, the most notable is AIUDF party MLA Aminul Islam, who was the first individual arrested in the state under charges of sedition due to his controversial remarks concerning the deadly terrorist attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which resulted in over 20 fatalities.
In a video that circulated online, Islam alleged that the attacks in Pahalgam and Pulwama were orchestrated as part of a "government conspiracy". He claimed, "Six years ago in Pulwama, I asserted that the RDX blast was part of a central government conspiracy aimed at influencing the 2019 Lok Sabha elections."
He further stated that the BJP's narrative suggested that terrorists targeted only Hindus, while allowing Muslims to escape. He argued, "Victims reported that the attackers did not inquire about anyone's identity, and I suspect that the same group involved in the Pulwama attack is behind the Pahalgam incident."
Islam warned, "If the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi fails to conduct an impartial investigation and attempts to create a rift between Hindus and Muslims, I will conclude that this event was indeed a conspiracy," implying that both PM Modi and HM Amit Shah share responsibility.
AIUDF chief Maulana Badaruddin Ajmal distanced himself from Islam's remarks, asserting, "AIUDF supports the government. Terrorism knows no religion, and those who propagate terrorism are antagonistic to Islam."
