Guwahati, May 19 (NationPress) Assam Police have detained three individuals for their pro-Pakistan and anti-national remarks regarding India's Operation Sindoor.
On Monday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced via a post on X that these anti-national elements have been apprehended. The individuals were named as Rupsan Ali, Roshid Mondol alias Abdur Roshid, and Raju Sheikh.
Ali was taken into custody in Kokrajhar, while Mondal and Sheikh were arrested in Goalpara and South Salmara, respectively.
CM Sarma emphasized in his post that the Assam Police are vigilantly overseeing the digital landscape.
These latest arrests bring the total number of individuals detained in the state for pro-Pakistan sentiments to 71. Notably, among these is the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Aminul Islam, who was the first to be arrested for his pro-Pakistan remarks.
Aminul Islam, representing Assam's Dhing Assembly constituency, was apprehended on May 1 on charges of sedition following provocative statements concerning the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in 26 fatalities.
In a video circulated online, the AIUDF leader claims that the Pahalgam and Pulwama attacks were orchestrated as part of a government conspiracy.
He stated, "Six years ago during the Pulwama RDX blast that took 42 soldiers' lives, I asserted that the Central government conspired to win the 2019 Lok Sabha elections."
He further commented on the Pahalgam incident, alleging that the BJP was misrepresenting the situation, claiming the terrorists inquired about religion before attacking Hindus. "The survivors have reported that the terrorists opened fire indiscriminately, without asking for names. I suspect a connection between the Pulwama attack and this incident," he noted.
Islam remarked, "If the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government fails to conduct a thorough investigation and seeks to sow discord between Hindus and Muslims, I would view this as a conspiracy." He specifically targeted Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Conversely, AIUDF Chief Badruddin Ajmal distanced himself from Islam's statements, asserting, "AIUDF supports the government. Terrorists have no religion, and those who propagate terrorism are against Islam."
