Jammu, Nov 5 (NationPress) An Indian Army paratrooper sustained injuries during gunfire exchanges between security forces and militants in an ongoing anti-terrorism operation within a forested region of J&K’s Kishtwar district on Wednesday, according to officials.

The paratrooper was hurt in the operation located in the Kalaban forest area of Chatroo sub-division of Kishtwar.

"The injured para trooper was airlifted to the army’s Command Hospital in Udhampur town for medical care," officials reported.

Security forces initiated a Cordon & Search Operation (CASO) based on precise intelligence regarding the presence of militants in the Kalaban forest region. As the forces approached the hiding militants, they opened fire, leading to an encounter.

Officials confirmed that the operation against the militants remains active.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Nagrota-based White Knight Corps stated on X: "In an intelligence-driven operation, in collaboration with @jk_police, alert troops of #WhiteKnightCorps have engaged with militants in the general area of Chhatru. Fire exchanged with militants. Operation is ongoing."

Kishtwar district has experienced six encounters in the last seven months as security forces persist in their operations against terrorists hiding in the mountainous terrain.

On September 21, a group of militants clashed with security forces in the Chatroo area.

On September 13, two army personnel, including a junior commissioned officer, lost their lives and two others were injured during an encounter in the Naidgram region of Chatroo sub-division.

Gunfights also occurred between security forces and militants in the Dul and Chatroo areas on August 11 and July 2, although the militants managed to escape.

On May 22, one soldier and two militants were killed in another confrontation in Chatroo sub-division.

On April 12, three militants were killed in Kishtwar.

Following the Baisaran meadow terrorist attack on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 25 tourists and one local pony handler by Pakistan-backed LeT terrorists, security forces have undertaken aggressive anti-terrorism operations targeting terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), and supporters.

The goal of this revised strategy is to dismantle the entire ecosystem of terror rather than merely targeting armed militants.

Drug traffickers, drug dealers, and those involved in hawala money schemes are also under scrutiny by security forces, as it is believed that the proceeds from these illegal activities are ultimately used to support terrorism in the Union Territory.

Point of View

It is imperative to recognize the unwavering commitment of our security forces in the face of adversity. Their relentless pursuit to eradicate terrorism reflects a broader strategy aimed at dismantling the entire ecosystem of terror. This comprehensive approach not only targets armed militants but also addresses the underlying support networks that sustain them, reaffirming our nation's stance against terrorism.
