Mumbai, March 19 (NationPress) NCP (Sharad Pawar) MLA Rohit Pawar on Wednesday defended the comparison of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb, asserting that their governing styles share notable similarities.

As the demand for the removal of Aurangzeb's grave escalates, the opposition in Maharashtra has ramped up its criticism of the government, drawing comparisons between the rule of the Mughal emperor and Fadnavis's leadership.

In an interview with IANS, Pawar remarked, "Aurangzeb's governance catered to the elite, while Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj championed the upliftment of society, a principle we (NCP-SP) adhere to."

He contended that the present administration favors contractors over the general populace.

"When we assess governing approaches, this administration seems solely focused on contractors and neglects the common man. Therefore, in terms of leadership style, this government can indeed be likened to Aurangzeb's reign," he stated.

Pawar also denounced the recent violence in Nagpur, labeling it a "government-sponsored" occurrence.

He noted that both the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister recognized the violence as a premeditated occurrence, which he believes indicates a failure of intelligence.

"If such events continue and lives are lost, who will take responsibility? If it wasn't an intelligence failure and violence still transpired, then it was government-sponsored," Pawar asserted.

He called for the government to clarify whether the unrest stemmed from intelligence shortcomings. "Anyone involved in stone-pelting or any form of violence should be identified and prosecuted," he added.

The NCP-SP leader further charged that the Nagpur violence was staged to distract the public from critical issues facing ordinary citizens.

"Farmers are struggling, unemployed youth are in despair, and women's safety remains a pressing concern, yet these issues are left unaddressed. The government is doing nothing for them. As public anger grows, they have suddenly brought up the Aurangzeb and Chhatrapati Shivaji debate, and then the violence ensued," he concluded.
