Motihari (Bihar), June 27 (NationPress) In a significant advancement towards the government's vision of 'Ease of Living', a city gas distribution (CGD) initiative has been launched in Motihari to ensure that piped natural gas (PNG) is accessible to every household. This initiative is designed to deliver direct and environmentally friendly energy access to the populace while decreasing reliance on conventional fuels such as LPG.
The project officially commenced with the ceremonial unveiling of the MDPE (Medium Density Polyethylene) underground gas pipeline. The event featured a traditional worship (puja) ceremony led by BJP MP and former Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh, who inaugurated the pipeline installation. Following this, a formal gathering was held at a local resort, where Singh symbolically lit the ceremonial lamp to mark the occasion.
In his address, Radha Mohan Singh underscored the importance of this initiative, labeling it as a pivotal step towards establishing a gas-based economy in India. He pointed out that natural gas serves not only as a clean and eco-friendly fuel but also offers cost advantages for domestic users, particularly in contrast to LPG. The pipeline is expected to mitigate air pollution and eliminate the hassle of frequent LPG cylinder replacements.
“The Central Government is committed to transforming India into a gas-based economy,” Singh stated. “By 2030, our aim is to elevate the share of gas in the national energy mix to 15 percent. Up until 2014, India had a mere 15,340 kilometers of gas pipelines. However, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this network has expanded to nearly 25,000 kilometers over the past decade, with an additional 10,000 kilometers currently under development.”
Singh further asserted that the enhancement of gas pipeline infrastructure would facilitate cheaper and cleaner energy transportation nationwide. “Thus, initiatives such as this are being executed swiftly and within specified timelines,” he remarked.
He also emphasized that the pipeline project in Motihari is in harmony with the Prime Minister’s pledge to achieve net-zero emissions. Advocating for natural gas as a viable alternative fuel aligns with this national environmental objective.
According to project officials, the installation of the underground pipeline will be conducted in phases throughout Motihari, aiming for completion within a year. Once operational, domestic consumers will benefit from lowered monthly fuel costs and will gain access to a safer and more convenient energy source.
During the event, Vivek Pratap Singh Visen, Regional Manager for Gas (Bihar-2) at Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, elaborated on the technical and economic advantages of the project. He reiterated the corporation’s dedication to executing this infrastructure efficiently to guarantee reliable access for all residents.
The launch gathering attracted numerous dignitaries and local leaders, including Motihari MLA Pramod Kumar, Deputy Mayor Dr. Lalbabu Prasad, BJP District President Pawan Raj, and a host of local citizens.
