New Delhi, Nov 26 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi spearheaded nationwide celebrations as India was officially designated as the host for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, with Amdavad (Ahmedabad) confirmed as the host city. This historic announcement was made during the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) General Assembly in Glasgow on Wednesday.

PM Modi expressed his joy on X, stating: "I am thrilled that India has secured the bid to host the centenary Commonwealth Games 2030! Congratulations to the citizens of India and our vibrant sporting community. It is our unified dedication and spirit of sportsmanship that has placed India prominently on the international sporting stage.

"Guided by the philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, we are excited to host these historic games with immense zeal. We are ready to welcome the world!" his post further elaborated.

This marks India’s return to hosting the quadrennial games after two decades, igniting historic celebrations at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS) organized a special ceremony in the capital, attended by Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, senior officials from the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), and prominent figures from MYAS and SAI. Many Olympians, Commonwealth medalists, and sports icons were also present, representing India’s burgeoning sporting revival.

In his address, Dr. Mandaviya hailed the day as historic. "Hosting the CWG in its 100th year in 2030 is significant for both the CGF and us as hosts. Under the leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India's sports sector is undergoing a transformation. Events like the Boxing World Cup, Hockey World Cup, and World Para Athletics showcase our readiness to host top-tier international competitions.

"We are also preparing for the 2029 World Police Games, which will further bolster our framework for the 2036 Olympic Games, which we aspire to host. The Khelo Bharat Niti and the Sports Governance Act will drive the transformation and reform of Indian sports. In the next decade, India aims to be among the top 10, and by 2047, we strive for a position in the top 5. I urge all athletes to prepare to make our nation proud," the Union Minister remarked.

Dr. Mandaviya also emphasized the increasing global confidence in India's hosting abilities, referencing recent commendations from international leaders such as World Para Athletics President Paul Fitzgerald, World Boxing President Boris Van Der Vorst, and Cuban Olympic legend Javier Sotomayor. "Such recognition reinforces what the world already senses: India is ready. India is capable. India has arrived," he added.

The CGF's official statement earlier in the day declared, "The decision affirms that the world’s most populous nation will host this landmark edition of the Games, following the endorsement of India’s bid by delegates from the 74 Commonwealth nations and territories at the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow.

"India proposed an impressive vision for the 2030 Games, centered in the Gujarat city of Amdavad (Ahmedabad), which builds upon the groundwork established by Glasgow 2026, allowing India to celebrate the centenary in a grand manner," the statement continued.

The ceremony in New Delhi on Wednesday evening featured a specially crafted audio-visual presentation highlighting India’s Commonwealth Games legacy, from medal achievements to hosting the 2010 edition. The announcement was complemented by a dazzling laser show and fireworks, culminating in the reveal of the official hashtag: #CWG2030InBHARAT, reflecting India’s ambition and vision for Viksit Bharat 2047. Staying true to India's commitment to sustainability in hosting large-scale sporting events, the fireworks utilized environmentally friendly green crackers, which are non-polluting.

India had previously achieved a total of 101 medals, including 38 golds, during the 2010 CWG in New Delhi, with an impressive 30 medals from shooting alone. In the 2022 edition, India secured 61 medals, including 22 golds, with shooting not featured in the Birmingham edition. Ahmedabad will become the second Indian and third Asian city to host the Commonwealth Games 2030.
