PM Modi Highlights Impact of Nikshay Mitra Initiative on TB Decline in India

New Delhi, Dec 7 (NationPress) As India pursues its goal of eliminating tuberculosis (TB) by 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended the contributions of Nikshay Mitras and other efficient treatment methods that have led to a significant decrease in the prevalence of this lethal infectious disease.

PM Modi remarked that these initiatives have substantially enhanced the recovery rate.

“Programs like Nikshay Mitras and shorter, more effective treatments have greatly diminished TB incidence, bolstered recovery rates, and strengthened India's position as a leader in the global fight against TB,” the PM stated in a message on X.

This statement was made in response to a post by Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda, who detailed various initiatives, including a 100-day campaign in areas heavily burdened by TB and increased nutritional support via the Nikshay Poshan Yojana, launched by the government to combat TB.

“Union Health Minister Shri @JPNadda elaborates on how India's TB elimination initiatives have experienced transformative advancements with nutritional assistance through the Nikshay Poshan Yojana,” added the PM.

Meanwhile, Nadda is set to officially launch the ambitious 100-Day TB Elimination Campaign in Panchkula, Haryana, on Saturday.

This campaign aims to expedite the battle against TB by enhancing case detection, minimizing diagnostic delays, and improving treatment outcomes, especially for at-risk groups.

Covering 347 districts across 33 states and Union Territories, this campaign is a vital part of India’s strategy to eradicate TB and establish a TB-free nation.

India has also made notable progress in reducing the rate of this dangerous infectious disease and the associated fatalities. “The TB incidence rate in India has decreased by 17.7 percent, from 237 per 100,000 population in 2015 to 195 per 100,000 population in 2023,” stated Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Anupriya Patel, in a written response in the Rajya Sabha.

Patel also mentioned that “TB-related deaths have dropped by 21.4 percent, from 28 per lakh population in 2015 to 22 per lakh population in 2023.” The notification of TB cases, which has been a pressing concern in India, has also seen improvements in recent years. “The number of notified TB cases surged from 18.05 lakh in 2020 to 25.52 lakh in 2023,” the MoS reported.
