New Delhi, Nov 13 (NationPress) Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda and Uttarakhand's Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership on Thursday, highlighting India's position as a leader in the fight against tuberculosis (TB).
The Union Health Minister expressed enthusiasm after the World Health Organisation (WHO) noted significant reductions in TB cases in India, attributing this success to the Jan Andolan initiative aimed at achieving a TB-free India.
"The WHO has recognized India's impressive progress, with a 21 percent decrease in TB incidence since 2015, which is nearly double the global average. Treatment coverage has reached 92 percent with a 90 percent success rate, placing India far ahead of other nations," Union Minister Nadda stated on his official X account.
He further noted, "This achievement is fueled by a Jan Andolan for a #TBMuktBharat. In 2024, India identified 26.18 lakh TB patients, marking the highest detection rate in a single year."
Nadda emphasized that modern technology and public awareness have been crucial in combating TB.
"Innovations such as portable, AI-enabled X-rays and decentralized NAAT testing are accelerating case detection, reducing transmission, and saving lives," he added.
Through genuine Jan Bhagidari (people's participation), we are progressing towards a TB-free India, he remarked.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also commended this achievement, attributing it to the Prime Minister's distinguished leadership.
"Respected Prime Minister, India's historic accomplishments in TB elimination, as noted in the WHO Global TB Report 2025, stem from your exceptional leadership, steadfast guidance, and strong political resolve," CM Dhami shared on his X account.
He highlighted that under PM Modi's leadership, Uttarakhand has made significant strides toward a TB-free India.
"We are fully committed to advancing this national mission with even greater urgency under your guidance," the CM concluded.
According to the WHO's 'Global TB Report 2025', TB incidence in India has dropped sharply by 21 percent – from 237 per lakh population in 2015 to 187 per lakh in 2024.
This reduction is nearly double the 12 percent decline seen globally.
Additionally, the number of "missing cases"—those who contracted TB but did not report—has decreased from an estimated 15 lakh in 2015 to less than one lakh in 2024.
