Kolkata, June 25 (NationPress) - Abhishek Banerjee, General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress and a member of Lok Sabha, stated on Wednesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah must step down and assume responsibility for the Pahalgam terror attack.
He emphasized that the incident was evidently a consequence of a comprehensive intelligence failure.
“The Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister should accept moral responsibility for this terror attack,” he asserted.
While addressing a public rally in Diamond Harbour, Banerjee further accused the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister of promoting divisive politics within India, while multi-party delegations were abroad defending the government's stance on terrorism.
He also criticized national BJP leaders for particularly targeting West Bengal with communally divisive rhetoric. “There was a deliberate attempt to incite tension in West Bengal by misleading its citizens,” Banerjee stated.
He predicted that the BJP would face a severe setback in the upcoming state Assembly elections scheduled for next year, foreseeing the party achieving its lowest performance in the state since the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
“In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, BJP won from 77 constituencies. They will fall below 50 in the 2026 Assembly polls. I generally avoid forecasting, but before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, I predicted that we would secure more seats in West Bengal than in 2019, and my prediction was validated when the results were announced,” Banerjee concluded.
