New Delhi, Dec 14 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his admiration on Sunday for the unveiling of a unique postal cover dedicated to Emperor Perumpidugu Mutharaiyar II, affectionately referred to as Suvaran Maran. He characterized this ancient ruler as a visionary leader, capable administrator, and a devoted guardian of Tamil culture.

In a message shared on X, the Prime Minister conveyed his “great pleasure” over the release of the commemorative postal cover by Vice President Thiru C.P. Radhakrishnan in tribute to the ancient Tamil emperor.

“Emperor Perumpidugu Mutharaiyar II (Suvaran Maran) was a dynamic administrator blessed with commendable foresight, vision, and diplomatic insight. He was resolute in his pursuit of justice and served as a formidable protector of Tamil culture. I encourage the youth to explore his remarkable life,” PM Modi remarked on X.

The Prime Minister’s comments were prompted by an earlier announcement from Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, who revealed the commemorative postage stamp during an event in New Delhi.

During his speech, the Vice President emphasized the Government of India’s ongoing commitment to promoting and safeguarding the Tamil language and culture under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.

He commended initiatives like the Kashi Tamil Sangam, aimed at reinforcing cultural connections and celebrating Tamil heritage, while also highlighting the government's endeavors to identify and honor Tamil monarchs, leaders, and freedom fighters who have historically been overlooked. The release of the stamp commemorating Emperor Perumbidugu Mutharaiyar is part of a larger initiative to bring historical balance and acknowledge those who have contributed to India’s civilizational legacy.

“He noted that as India moves towards 'Viksit Bharat', recognizing these hidden leaders will aid in reclaiming the nation’s cultural pride,” he stated.

The event was graced by notable figures including Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Dr. L. Murugan, and Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha Harivansh Narayan Singh, among many other esteemed guests.
