New Delhi, Oct 11 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday honored Nanaji Deshmukh, a distinguished social activist and politician, on his birth anniversary. He characterized him as a visionary social reformer, a nation builder, and a steadfast supporter of self-reliance and rural empowerment, recognizing his significant contributions to society.

On the social media platform X, PM Modi released a tribute video accompanied by a heartfelt message.

“Today, I pay tribute to the esteemed Nanaji Deshmukh on his birth anniversary. He was a visionary social reformer, dedicated to nation-building and a lifelong proponent of self-reliance and rural empowerment. His life exemplified dedication, discipline, and service to society,” he stated.

In the video, PM Modi emphasizes Deshmukh’s lifelong commitment to national service.

“Nanaji Deshmukh dedicated his entire life to the nation. Through the Deendayal Upadhyay Institute, he motivated many to serve the country. He encouraged young couples to take part, and hundreds responded. He engaged them in village development,” PM Modi remarked.

Referencing Deshmukh's values and decisions, the Prime Minister added:

“Following the path of JP Narayan, he refused any Cabinet position. He concentrated on Chitrakoot and Gonda, devoting three decades of his life to their progress.”

In another message on X, PM Modi shared a 1978 press statement from the 'Janata Party', saying, “Nanaji Deshmukh was profoundly influenced by Loknayak JP. His admiration for JP and his vision for youth development, service, and nation-building are evident in the message he shared as the Mahamantri of the Janata Party.”

Borne on October 11, 1916, in Maharashtra’s Hingoli district, Nananji Deshmukh was a key social reformer and politician focused on education, healthcare, and rural self-sufficiency. His ideas were shaped by the nationalist thoughts of Lokmanya Tilak and Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, the founder of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

A prominent figure in Indian social and political circles, Deshmukh left an everlasting impact on the nation’s development narrative. His life's mission was grounded in the principle of “Antyodaya”—uplifting the most disadvantaged in society. He demonstrated this through his relentless dedication to “Gramodaya”—the comprehensive development of villages.

His beliefs, initiatives, and steadfast commitment continue to inspire future generations to strive for a society where every individual can live a dignified and meaningful life.

Nanaji Deshmukh advocated for the empowerment of rural communities, understanding that genuine progress required integrated development—encompassing education, healthcare, economic growth, and sustainability. He championed self-reliance and envisioned villages as self-sustaining units capable of overcoming poverty and underdevelopment.
