Agartala, Sep 21 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially inaugurate the renovated Tripura Sundari temple, a revered site among the 51 Shakti Peethas in Hinduism, located in southern Tripura's Udaipur on Monday, as confirmed by officials on Sunday.
A senior police representative indicated that the Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive in Agartala on Monday afternoon after his visit to Arunachal Pradesh. He will then proceed to the Gomati district headquarters in Udaipur to inaugurate the temple, situated approximately 65 km south of Agartala.
“Following the inauguration of the revamped temple and its enhanced surroundings, PM Modi will conduct a puja at the Kali temple. After this, he will return to Agartala before departing for Delhi. As per the current schedule, no public address is planned by the Prime Minister,” the official stated.
Tripura's Chief Minister, Manik Saha, has made two visits to Udaipur and the Tripura Sundari temple in the last fortnight to oversee the preparations for the Prime Minister's visit, and he extended an invitation for the inauguration.
On his official X account, CM Saha expressed, “The captivating nighttime view of the newly constructed infrastructure at Mother's Abode, developed under the Prasad Project! The stunning complex, blessed by Mother's grace, showcases the government's profound respect and appreciation for the divine. The entire population of Tripura eagerly anticipates the grand inauguration by our esteemed leader, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, on September 22nd.”
The Chief Minister also shared a video highlighting the redeveloped temple and its surroundings.
A senior official from the Tourism Department mentioned that the 524-year-old Tripura Sundari temple has undergone redevelopment at a cost exceeding Rs 52 crore under the PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive) initiative by the Union Tourism Ministry. Additionally, the Tripura government contributed Rs 7 crore to this endeavor.
The temple, established in 1501 by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya, is an iconic landmark representing the rich cultural heritage of the state and is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in India, ranking third in eastern India after Kolkata’s Kali temple and the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati.
After the end of the 517-year reign of various kings, the princely state of Tripura merged with the Indian government on October 15, 1949, following an agreement with Kanchan Prabha Devi, the then-regent Maharani.
In a related development, replicas of all 51 Shakti Peethas are being constructed at the upcoming 51-Shakti Peethas Park in Banduar, Gomati district, with an investment of Rs 97.70 crore. This park is located just four km from the Tripura Sundari temple.
The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone and actively participated in the Bhumi Pujan of the 51-Shakti Peethas Park on July 13.
According to the Tourism Department official, the proposed park site in Banduar is a tranquil village surrounded by lush greenery, providing a serene atmosphere.
“The 51 Shakti Peethas Park is an ambitious religious tourism initiative that aims to deliver an immersive experience for visitors by showcasing replicas of the 51 Shakti Peeth temples from across the Indian sub-continent, representing the cultural and spiritual heritage linked to Shakti (Devi) worship in Hinduism,” the official remarked.
The park will feature various amenities designed to enhance the visitor experience, including a food court with sufficient seating, a souvenir shop, drinking water facilities, well-constructed roads with parking, public amenities, guest accommodations, landscaped gardens, mythology museums, and diverse entertainment options.
