PM Modi Wishes Mamata Banerjee a Happy 70th Birthday

Kolkata, Jan 5 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his birthday wishes to Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, as she celebrated her 70th birthday on Sunday. In a message shared on his X handle, he stated, “On her birthday, I convey my greetings to West Bengal CM Mamata Didi. Praying for her long and healthy life.”

Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge also joined in the celebrations, offering his wishes in Bengali, reflecting Mamata Banerjee's mother tongue. Kharge's post included, “Warm birthday wishes to the founding chairperson TMC, Mamata didi. Wishing you a long and healthy life.”

In recent years, Prime Minister Modi has consistently taken the opportunity to wish Mamata Banerjee on this significant day, marking it as a tradition.

Official records indicate that Banerjee was born on January 5, 1955, although she has mentioned in her memoir, Ekante, that her birth occurred during the festival of Durga Puja, typically celebrated at the end of September or early October according to the Hindu calendar.

Mamata Banerjee made history by becoming the first woman Chief Minister of West Bengal in 2011, bringing an end to the 34-year dominance of the Left Front. Her party, the Trinamool Congress, secured victories in two consecutive state Assembly elections, first in 2016 and again in 2021.

Initially part of the Congress party, she later established her own political entity, the Trinamool Congress. During the 2009 Lok Sabha elections and the 2011 state Assembly elections, Trinamool Congress allied with Congress, but by the 2016 West Bengal Assembly polls, they parted ways to form an alliance with the Left Front, continuing until the upcoming general elections in 2024.
