New Delhi, June 29 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended the rising environmental awareness in India, emphasizing the role of both individuals and communities in nurturing nature and fostering sustainability.
During the 123rd episode of his monthly radio show, 'Mann ki Baat', PM Modi shared numerous inspiring stories he received on World Environment Day, showcasing a growing commitment to environmental stewardship among the populace.
"This month, we celebrated World Environment Day together. I was overwhelmed with thousands of messages from you. Many shared tales of individuals who began their journey to protect the environment, eventually uniting whole communities around them. This collective effort is becoming a significant force for our planet," PM Modi stated.
He recounted the commendable efforts of Ramesh Kharmale from Pune.
"While most people relax at the weekend, Ramesh Kharmale and his family venture out with a pickaxe and a spade. Do you know where they go? To the hills of Junnar! Regardless of the heat or challenging terrain, their mission continues. They clear vegetation, dig trenches to conserve water, and plant seeds. Just in two months, they have created 70 trenches," he explained.
"Ramesh has constructed numerous small ponds and planted hundreds of trees. He is also developing an Oxygen Park. As a result, birds are returning, and wildlife is flourishing again," he added.
The Prime Minister also praised a significant initiative in Gujarat.
"A remarkable environmental campaign is taking shape in Ahmedabad. The Municipal Corporation has launched the 'Mission for Million Trees', aiming to plant hundreds of thousands of trees. A special feature of this campaign is the 'Sindoor Van', dedicated to the heroes of Operation Sindoor. Saplings of Sindoor are planted in memory of those valiant individuals who sacrificed everything for our nation," he remarked.
He highlighted the increasing success of the national movement 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam', which seeks to connect personal emotions with environmental responsibility.
"Another initiative gaining momentum is 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam'. Under this program, millions of trees have been planted across the country. I encourage you to engage in similar efforts in your local community. Plant trees, conserve water, and serve the Earth because when we safeguard nature, we are ensuring a brighter future for generations to come," PM Modi urged.
He further referenced Patoda village in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar district, Maharashtra, which has adopted an eco-friendly lifestyle.
"This village Panchayat is carbon-neutral. Residents do not discard waste outside their homes. There is a comprehensive system for garbage collection from every household. Here, wastewater is treated properly before it enters the river," he said.
"Funeral rites are conducted using cow dung cakes, and a tree is planted in memory of the deceased with the ash. The cleanliness in this village is commendable. When individual habits become a shared commitment, significant change is inevitable," he added.
The Prime Minister stressed the urgent need for environmental guardianship at both personal and community levels, indicating that these efforts are crucial not just for today, but for the future.
