New Delhi, April 4 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his appreciation for the recent approval of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill and the Mussalman Wakf (Repeal) Bill by Parliament, referring to it as a transformative step in India's ongoing journey toward socio-economic justice, transparency, and inclusive growth.

In the early hours of Friday, the Rajya Sabha voted in favor of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, with a majority of 128 votes to 95, following an intense debate. The Lok Sabha had passed the Bill just a day prior after nearly 12 hours of thorough discussions.

Via X, PM Modi stated, "The passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill and the Mussalman Wakf (Repeal) Bill by both Houses of Parliament signifies a transformative moment in our collective endeavor for socio-economic justice, transparency, and inclusive growth. This will particularly assist those who have long been marginalized, denying them both a voice and opportunities."

He expressed gratitude towards the lawmakers, adding, "I thank all Members of Parliament who engaged in the discussions and shared their views, contributing to the enhancement of these legislations. Special thanks also go to the many individuals who provided valuable feedback to the Parliamentary committee. Once again, the significance of extensive debate and discussion has been emphasized."

PM Modi underscored that these reforms would usher in much-needed transparency to the Waqf system, which, he stated, has lacked accountability for decades.

"For years, the Waqf system was associated with a lack of transparency and accountability. This particularly affected the interests of Muslim women, economically disadvantaged Muslims, and Pasmanda Muslims. The legislation passed by Parliament will enhance transparency and protect rights," he remarked.

"We are entering an era where the framework will be more modern and attentive to social justice. Broadly, we remain dedicated to prioritizing the dignity of every citizen. This is how we cultivate a stronger, more inclusive, and compassionate India," he concluded.

The Rajya Sabha debate commenced on Thursday and culminated in the Bill's passage early Friday.

The legislation will now proceed to President Droupadi Murmu for her approval before it becomes law.
