New Delhi, Oct 25 (NationPress) In a shocking development, police in Maharashtra's Satara district apprehended a suspect on Saturday linked to the tragic suicide of a female doctor. This incident reportedly followed her being repeatedly raped by a police officer and coerced by a Member of Parliament to fabricate medical reports for individuals involved in legal cases.
Authorities have confirmed the arrested individual as Prashant Bankar, the son of the landlord where the doctor resided, whose name was cited in her extensive four-page suicide note.
The deceased, hailing from Beed district, served as a medical officer at a government hospital in Phaltan, Satara. Tragically, she was discovered hanging in a hotel room on Thursday night under suspicious circumstances. Disturbingly, she inscribed a suicide note on her palm naming Sub-Inspector Gopal Badane and Prashant Bankar, alleging that the police officer had raped her and that Prashant inflicted mental torment.
Following Prashant's arrest, police officials stated he will be presented in court, where they will seek his custody for deeper investigation. In the meantime, Sub-Inspector Badane has been suspended, and a comprehensive inquiry is ongoing. Both suspects have been charged at the Phaltan Police Station. Satara SP Tushar Doshi confirmed that the allegations of rape, along with Prashant's involvement, are under meticulous scrutiny.
The female physician, who supposedly took her own life, left behind a detailed four-page suicide note along with the urgent message inscribed on her palm, indicating that a police officer had raped her multiple times and pressured her to issue fraudulent fitness certificates for accused individuals in police matters. Her note reveals that she endured pressure not only from police officials but also from a Member of Parliament and his aides.
The doctor, who was a medical officer at the Phaltan sub-district hospital, recorded on her palm that she had experienced rape on four separate occasions by Sub-Inspector Gopal Badane and had suffered mental and physical abuse for over five months.
Originally from Beed district, the doctor had been employed at the hospital for 23 months.
Gopal Badane serves as a police officer, while Prashant Bankar is the son of her landlord.
Despite having lodged 21 complaints with various authorities, no action was taken against her aggressors.
In her note, she recounted a specific incident where she was coerced into issuing a certificate, and two aides of an MP pressured her to speak with him over the phone. During that conversation, she alleged that the MP issued indirect threats.
Her cousin has also corroborated allegations regarding the doctor being compelled to falsify medical certificates.
