New Delhi, Oct 26 (NationPress) In a crucial turn of events regarding the tragic case of a female doctor’s suicide and alleged rape in Maharashtra’s Satara district, police have taken Sub-Inspector Gopal Badane into custody following his surrender at the Phaltan Police Station. Badane, who had been on the run since his suspension, faces accusations of repeatedly sexually assaulting the woman doctor, ultimately leading to her tragic decision to take her own life. He is scheduled to appear in court on Sunday.
On Saturday, authorities apprehended another suspect, Prashant Bankar, the landlord's son of the deceased doctor. He is charged with the mental harassment of the doctor, whose name, along with Badane's, was included in her detailed four-page suicide note and also in a message written on her palm prior to her death.
Officials report that the deceased was a government medical officer stationed at the Phaltan sub-district hospital in Satara. A resident of Beed district, she was discovered hanging in a hotel room late Thursday night under suspicious circumstances.
Her suicide note alleged that Sub-Inspector Gopal Badane had raped her four times and that Prashant Bankar had persistently harassed her mentally. She also indicated that a Member of Parliament (MP) and his aides had coerced her into falsifying medical reports for individuals involved in criminal cases.
Authorities confirmed that both suspects have been charged at the Phaltan Police Station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Satara Superintendent of Police Tushar Doshi announced that a thorough investigation into the allegations of rape, harassment, and the possible involvement of political figures is currently in progress.
The late doctor’s note indicated that she endured both physical and psychological abuse for over five months. It also highlighted that she had submitted as many as 21 complaints to various agencies, yet no significant action was taken. In one instance described in her note, she reported being threatened by an MP over the phone for refusing to issue a fraudulent medical certificate.
Her cousin corroborated these claims, alleging that the doctor was pressured to produce false medical certificates.
